Inspire: Luton Sports Village – its development and aims, plus being at the centre of ITV’s ‘Splash’ TV event

Helen’s presentation will cover the development and aims of the new £26m Luton Sports Village, as well as an entertaining focus on the 'real story’ of being involved in a high-profile media event – the ITV programme ‘Splash’, which LSV hosted. Helen will also touch on how the Sports Village is just one aspect of Active Luton’s wider work as an innovative sport, leisure, physical activity and education trust which, through their Active Education team, recently won a bid to open a new free school in Luton with a sport and physical activity focus.

Diving development – maximising the impact of a flagship facility

Luton Sports Village is home to a world-class diving facility and Kevin will lead this session with Inspire Luton’s diving development team who will outline their development programme. Delegates will gain an insight into how the ASA, the local authority and the trust are working together to realise the full potential of this flagship facility – harnessing the ‘Splash’ effect and the post-Olympic buzz to sustain the interest the area’s young people have in diving as a sport.

Swimming pool safety – searching for safe and effective solutions

• Safety in swimming pools – Andy Read and colleagues from the Swimming Pool Operator Group will cover pool-related HSE ‘mythbusting’, supervising high-risk groups of swimmers and lifeguarding arrangements.
• The CIMSPA ‘under 8s’ admissions guidance is now under review and Phil Collins, the recently appointed chairman of the CIMSPA Group doing this, will outline the project’s aims and objectives.
• Alex Blackwell will offer IQL’s perspective on the hot topics in lifeguarding today.
