CIMSPA and sportscotland appoint joint partnership executive

CIMSPA and sportscotland have appointed their first jointly managed team member with the recruitment of Susie Benson as a Corporate Partnerships Executive.

The appointment is part of a wider partnership between the two bodies which will ensure that Scotland benefits from the sport and physical activity sector professional standards framework; that individuals retain qualification portability, and that CIMSPA is well placed to contribute to the delivery of sportscotland’s “Sport for Life” strategy.

Susie Benson joins CIMSPA with a wide range of experience within the sector, including coach development at Triathlon Scotland, partnership management at sportscotland, and volunteer coordination at Glasgow 2014. Susie commented:

“I’m very pleased about to be taking up this role with CIMSPA as their positive impact on the sector grows. It’s exciting to be part of the new CIMSPA and sportscotland partnership and I’m looking forward to ensuring that the Scottish sport and physical activity world gains genuine benefits from this shared work.

“My background with Scottish governing bodies and coaching is a great preparation for engaging SGBs and explaining how our shared professional standards model can help both their organisation and wider goals of participation, elite support and building an active nation.”

Based at sportscotland’s Stirling facility, Susie will engage with CIMSPA employers, education partners and members in Scotland to ensure the chartered institute’s work aligns with sportscotland’s corporate strategy.

Speaking about the appointment, Fiona Wernham, Sport Development Head (Coaching and Volunteering) at sportscotland, said:

We are delighted to enter into a new and exciting relationship with CIMSPA. We already have great people delivering and developing sport in Scotland and we look forward to working with CIMSPA, governing bodies and local partners to make an even bigger impact on the sporting system in Scotland.

“This post is in place with CIMSPA to help us collectively move forward and, along with the additional and crucial partnership with the SQA, I believe we are in a very strong position to further support and strengthen the sporting workforce. Welcome on board Susie.”

Spencer Moore, CIMSPA Director of Strategy, confirmed the importance of the new role:

“I’m delighted about Susie’s appointment as it will ensure our two organisations stay in step. This key liaison work will ensure we are able to capture the unique Scottish experience and value as to how we ensure their sport and physical activity workforce benefits from our partnership.”

Susie’s role will be essential in fusing the CIMSPA and sportscotland workforce strategies and will ensure the superb delivery of each. She will represent both bodies to ensure the strategic alignment of CIMSPA and sportscotland.”
