CIMSPA endorses three new degree programmes at Edge Hill University

Three sports management degrees at Edge Hill go forward with the confidence of the sector’s professional standards.

Endorsed degree programmes are certified as meeting employer-set professional standards – an employability benchmark that makes clear the job roles a student completing the programme is qualified for.

The university’s BA (Hons) Sports Coaching and Development, BA (Hons) Sports Development and Management and BA (Hons) Sports Management and Coaching have been endorsed against CIMSPA’s professional standards.

Professor Andy Smith, from the Development of Sport and Physical Activity at Edge Hill University, who leads the University’s partnership with CIMSPA, said:

“We are delighted that our sports development, management and coaching programmes have received professional endorsement from CIMSPA, particularly as this makes us one of the first group of universities in the UK to receive degree endorsements in this field.

“Having listened to what our students want from their degrees, this recognition is testimony to the commitment which the department, and university more broadly, has to ensuring students are provided with high-quality, research-informed, and relevant academic programmes which are underpinned by essential employability skills and competencies that help prepare them for graduate employment.

“We are especially grateful to CIMSPA, as the single chartered institute for the sport and physical activity sector, for working with us to ensure our students are provided with real world experiences which enable them to get ahead in the job market, and for enabling students to take advantage of the many benefits they stand to receive from their CIMSPA membership such as opportunities to engage in continuous professional development in sport, physical activity and beyond.”

Helen Hiley, Education Officer (Higher Education) at CIMSPA, said:

“When CIMSPA endorses university courses it proves that we’re committed to making real change. We want to create a respected and regulated sector, and that has to begin at the start of the workforce’s professional development. As many begin their journey at university, understanding their degree is endorsed against employer-led professional standards becomes increasingly attractive.

We will continue to bring higher education institutions into partnership and we will aim to endorse all of their sport and physical activity courses. If you’re interested in helping us achieve this goal, please do get in touch.”
