CIMSPA strengthens its leadership with board refresh

The Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity (CIMSPA) is pleased to announce that Sandra Dodd, Manos Kapterian, Tracy Rea and Rowena Samarasinhe have been appointed to its board of trustees.

Commenting on the appointments, Marc Woods, Chair of CIMSPA said: “We were delighted with the response to our call for potential board members – the quality of the candidates was particularly high and following a thorough evaluation process we have appointed four highly capable new trustees.”

Tara Dillon, CEO, CIMSPA added: “On behalf of CIMSPA, I would like to welcome the new trustees to the board and look forward to working with them in their new role. I believe that the knowledge and experience that these new board members bring to the table will help us to further strengthen our position as the chartered professional body responsible for both setting standards in the sport and physical activity sector and providing a voice for its workforce.”

The board refresh follows CIMSPA’s announcement that it has successfully achieved compliance with the Sport England and UK Sport Code for Sports Governance.

The four new board members are:

Sandra Dodd: Sandra has in-depth experience of the leisure industry and is chief executive of Places for People Leisure, a social enterprise that operates over 100 leisure centres on behalf of local authorities across the UK. She also has an active role on the Badminton England board and sits on the ukactive board of directors as treasurer.

Tracy Rea: Tracy currently works as head of business operations within group transformation at Lloyds Banking Group. Previous to this Tracy’s background was in high performance sport, having been employed as performance director of Scottish Gymnastics in the lead up to the 2014 Commonwealth Games.

Rowena Samarasinhe: Rowena is general counsel at Lucerne-based sports marketing agency Athletics Management and Services, working with international federations on the sale of sponsorship and broadcasting rights and event delivery. She has an MBA in international sports management with over 10 years of dedicated experience in the sports industry – in football initially and then in athletics and other Olympic sports.

Manos Kapterian: Manos is senior vice president operations at Pearson, where he has held a number of senior roles including acting as managing director at Pearson Qualifications International. Prior to joining Pearson, Manos worked in human resource roles in the travel and not-for profit sectors, as well as in retail management.

The new board members join CIMSPA as the institute accelerates its work to provide high quality career pathways for the entire sport and physical activity workforce.

They will take up their duties at CIMSPA’s next board of trustees meeting on 22 May 2018. The appointments are for an initial term of 3 years, with tenure extensions available, in line with the Code for Sports Governance.
