University of Brighton achieve degree endorsement

CIMSPA adds another sport management degree to its list of endorsed higher education courses for the sector.

The University of Brighton’s BSc Sport Management programme has been successfully endorsed against the sport and physical activity sector’s professional standards framework by CIMSPA.

The professional standards that form part of the endorsed degree programme cover a wide range of skills and knowledge including coaching, working with children in different age groups, safeguarding and working in the school environment.

An endorsement enables and ensures employability for sport and physical activity-related programmes, such as the BSc Sport Management degree, in partnership with the sector’s chartered professional body.

This employability benchmark means that the students on the course will receive an education that enables them to be deployed in one or multiple roles within the industry’s workforce.

Professor Jo Doust, Head of the University’s School of Sport and Service Management, said: “We have been very pleased to be a CIMSPA Higher Education Partner for the last two years and are delighted that the BSc Sport Management degree is the first of our programmes to receive endorsement.

“The course offers students wide-ranging opportunities to develop personally and professionally. Endorsement against the CIMSPA professional standard of General Manager confirms that the course meets industry standards and provides graduates with the chance to start their careers in a positive way.”

Helen Hiley, the Higher Education Officer at CIMSPA, added: “Brighton’s degree endorsement represents another step forward for CIMSPA. This endorsement will allow students to realise their potential by having a clear route into and through our sector.”

CIMSPA is ambitiously seeking new partnerships with higher education institutions in an effort to provide more opportunities for students and graduates. An expanded, more diverse and more inclusive workforce begins at UK universities.

With this partnership, selected Brighton students will receive an introduction to their sector’s chartered professional body and an increase in engagement that links employers with students.
