CIMSPA partner YMCA Awards first to gain professional standards endorsement for fitness qualifications

The Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity (CIMSPA) is today highlighting the achievement of its awarding organisation partner YMCA Awards, as they celebrate the successful endorsement of three new qualifications against CIMSPA’s employer-led professional standards.

The new qualifications are:

  • YMCA Level 2 Certificate in Gym Instructing
  • YMCA Level 3 Diploma in Personal Training (Practitioner)
  • YMCA Level 3 Diploma in Gym Instructing and Personal Training (Practitioner)

YMCA Awards are the first CIMSPA awarding organisation partner to complete our endorsement process against new sector professional standards for a fitness qualification.

Fitness staff completing these qualifications can do so with complete confidence both that they are acquiring the knowledge and skills employers demand and that, when looking to adapt and specialise in the future, other CIMSPA-endorsed qualifications will offer clear progression without repeating learning.

Tara Dillon, CIMSPA CEO, said: “I would like to congratulate YMCA Awards on becoming the first awarding organisation to embrace the new CIMSPA professional standards for gym and personal training, by offering qualifications that will address the knowledge and skills that the fitness industry requires.

“Employers in our sector are looking for an increasingly skilled workforce and so I commend YMCA Awards for their speed in bringing these qualifications to market.

“The introduction of qualifications aligned to professional standards is a significant moment for education in the fitness industry and I urge learners and employers to look out for the new CIMSPA endorsed logo when choosing a gym or personal trainer qualification.”
