S&PA Professional - Winter 2016/17 issue out now
In this issue of S&PA Professional, be inspired by the unstoppable Tom Harrison. A gentleman of 80+ years, Tom epitomises ageless fitness as he runs half marathons, bog snorkels, coaches, leads walking groups and more. Continuing the theme of ageless fitness is a look at flexibility, aerobic, balance and strength (FABS) offerings for older adults, with research already revealing strong evidence of the benefits such initiatives can have on health and fitness.
What’s trendy in fitness this year? Fortunately, some top fitness trends emerging in 2017 also reflect best practice and are not merely faddish, according to the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM). Wearable technology remains at No 1 for a second year as the ACSM reveals its top 20 fitness trend rankings for 2017. A most encouraging trend for CIMSPA members as we enter the new year is the increasing importance of employing educated, certified and experienced fitness professionals – listed as the fourth most prevalent trend in the 2017 rankings.
Safety measures at UK leisure facilities also get considerable coverage in the Winter 2016-17 issue. You won’t want to miss our insightful report about a new British Standard that could help UK trampoline parks up their game as concerns grow about customer safety. Swimming pool operators, on the other hand, will gain insight into the latest anti-drowning systems and the thinking being invested into this crucial safety technology in the feature “Pooling resources” from p36.
And finally, brighten these dark winter days with two well-known sports personalities and achievers: Olympic swimmer Rebecca Adlington OBE shares 24 busy hours with us, and sport commentator Jacqui Oatley MBE leaves no doubt that more women are needed in sports journalism, especially football.
Find these stories and more in the Winter 2016-17 issue of S&PA Professional.
