Technology to feature high on the list as Active Training Awards 2015 Entries open up

The Active Training Awards are back for 2015, delivered by ukactive and CIMSPA and sponsored by Active IQ. These awards recognise the organisations and individuals who are leading the way in skills and workforce development and invites applications from providers and employers of all shapes and sizes.

The Active Training Awards delivered a rigorous and beneficial assessment process involving independent expert judges from inside and outside of the sector.

This year, new categories include ‘Best use of Technology’, designed to recognise e-learning platforms and digital solutions that support learners and also enable flexible and interactive learning. The ‘Employer of the Year’ Category has also been separated into ‘small’ and ‘large’ categories, in order to ensure organisations are competing against others of a similar size.

Building on the success of the inaugural Active Training Awards in 2014 and the Active Training Conference in March 2015, the Awards focus on driving the workforce development agenda, with crucial work in this area currently being spearheaded by ukactive and CIMSPA as part of their wider strategy to develop a fit for purpose workforce able to deliver the strategy of improving the health of the nation through physical activity.

Tara Dillon, CEO, CIMSPA commented: “These awards represent just how far vocational training and skills development have come in our sector. By recognising and celebrating those within our sector doing outstanding work we can continue to develop and keep raising the bar for excellence. With a rigorous application and assessment process, winning one of these awards represents a significant achievement, going to a training provider that genuinely excels over the competition.”

Steven Ward, executive director, ukactive confirmed: “Developing our workforce is a key priority for the physical activity sector. Training providers, be they apprenticeship providers, specialist training companies or employers implementing effective internal solutions, all make a crucial contribution to the physical activity sector. Without them, our sector would not continue to develop and innovate to meet the future demands placed upon it. The Active Training Awards recognise their critical contribution and raise the profile of those doing excellent work in this area.”

Jenny Patrickson, ‎commercial director, Active IQ, reiterated: “The entire Active Training Awards process is incredibly valuable to be a part of. From entering the awards where all applications receive first class feedback on their submissions, to attending the ceremony and getting the chance to celebrate all the great work being done in this sector. This event now represents a crucial fixture in all our calendars. The skills and training sector continues to develop and in order for us meet the demands put upon it, we need to keep improving to ensure our workforce have the right skills to take us forwards.”

The Active Training Awards invite applications from providers of all shapes and sizes across 9 award categories including:

  • Apprenticeship Provider of the Year
  • Innovative Training Programme of the Year
  • Best use of Technology
  • Large Training Provider of the Year
  • Small Training Provider of the Year
  • Large Employer of the Year
  • Small Employer of the Year
  • Supplier Learning and Development Provider
  • Special Populations Training Programme of the Year
  • Most Inspiring Physical Activity Professional of the Year

All applications are subject to a two or three stage assessment process featuring a written assessment, a review of learner and (or) employer feedback and an expert panel. All applicants will receive a detailed expert feedback report, regardless of how far their application progresses, outlining the strengths and weaknesses of their submission and suggestions for improvement.

Entries are open until Friday 21st August. Entrants should visit the ukactive website HERE to decide which category to enter. Winners will be announced on 26th of November at the Active Training Awards ceremony at the Crowne Plaza in Reading.
