Why you should choose CIMSPA
A message for prospective members, and those transferring from other registers who want to be listed on the CIMSPA exercise and fitness directory - www.cimspa.directory
What is CIMSPA?
The Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity is the single chartered professional body for the sport, fitness, leisure and physical activity sector. CIMSPA provides professional recognition of your status and qualifications and is developing career pathways for all in the sector – from student to CEO. CIMSPA is a registered charity and holds a royal charter.
Explicit backing from government
CIMSPA has been mandated by government and Sport England as the strategic lead on workforce development for the sector, to achieve the goals of the 2015 Sporting Future and 2016 Towards an Active Nation strategies.
CIMSPA is backed by the sector’s employers
Major sector employers, including Nuffield Health, Everyone Active, GLL, Fusion Lifestyle and Places for People Leisure, have already committed to requiring that relevant staff are CIMSPA members, particularly exercise and fitness professionals.
They have backed CIMSPA because of frustrations with the variable quality of staff accredited by the Register of Exercise Professionals (REPs) and have asked CIMSPA to provide an alternative.
CIMSPA now has over 60 employer partners across the UK, representing some 63,000 sector professionals, with new partners joining each week. Many of these partners have already transferred their staff from the REPs register to the CIMSPA exercise and fitness directory - www.cimspa.directory
Your listing on the only register that matters
By joining CIMSPA, exercise and fitness professionals are listed on the CIMSPA exercise and fitness directory – see this live at www.cimspa.directory
The directory helps employers and the public identify qualified exercise and fitness professionals who are recognised by their sector’s chartered professional body, who hold recognised qualifications delivered by CIMSPA-endorsed training providers, and who have maintained their competency through approved CPD.
A commitment to value
CIMSPA is committed to keeping its entry-level memberships as inexpensive as possible. CIMSPA affiliate (exercise and fitness) and practitioner (exercise and fitness) memberships cost just £30 per year.
A quality insurance option
CIMSPA has arranged with respected insurance provider FitPro to ensure that CIMSPA members who require it can access instructor public liability insurance, including coverage for personal training, exercise to music, gym instruction, yoga and pilates. Find out more here: http://fitpro.com/cimspa/
CIMSPA only recognises CPD and qualifications that will help your career
CIMSPA is moving the sport, fitness and activity sector’s CPD landscape past a “box checking” exercise and towards one that offers professionals a route to meeting their career ambitions.
CIMSPA’s awarding organisation, skills development and higher and further education partners are creating a unified skills and training ecosystem for the sector, and our employer partners are already beginning to require that their staff only undertake CIMSPA-recognised CPD, qualifications and apprenticeships. When choosing CPD you should look for one of these logos:
Am I qualified to join CIMSPA?
As a minimum, you will need a recognised level 2 qualification. A list of those that CIMSPA recognises can be found here.
I want to be part of this – what should I do?
Join us as either a CIMSPA affiliate (exercise and fitness) or CIMSPA practitioner (exercise and fitness). Once we have processed your application, you will be listed on the CIMSPA exercise and fitness directory and will able to use YOUR own personal logo to showcase your professional recognition by the sector’s chartered institute.
