New chair for CIMSPA Midlands region

CIMSPA is pleased to announce that Adam Hill, head of leisure and culture at Stafford Borough Council, has been elected by his regional board as the new chair of CIMSPA’s Midlands region.

Adam takes over from Sue Briggs, who led the region through the transitional period over the last 18 months, as CIMSPA embraced the leadership role the sport and activity sector has asked of it.

Adam, who has over 25 years of local government experience, with 7 different authorities, said: “I am delighted to become the new chair of the Midlands region and very much looking forward to continuing the good work that Sue has started. I have been a dedicated ambassador and supporter of CIMSPA from the start and believe it has a critical role to play in facilitating and supporting the development of a unified workforce for sport, leisure and physical activity, through empowering professionals and speaking with a unified voice.

“I look forward to leading the Midlands region in supporting these ambitions and being a conduit between industry professionals and the chartered institute – working to ensure that CIMSPA represents both the individual and the industry.”

Adam also commented on how the current climate shows a clear need for an inclusive professional body: “It’s a challenging time for the sector, with both constrained funding and increasingly high customer expectations of service quality, so the need to ensure the development and management of career pathways for everyone involved in the industry has never been more important.

“Working with my fellow Board members I plan to focus on both attracting new members and being an active ambassador for those who are already members, as well as listening to what is needed and leading and facilitating across the industry to meet those needs. My priorities include identifying “how, where and what” needs to be done and ensuring the Midlands management board and members are progressive, proactive and engaging, to drive forward the success of CIMSPA both nationally and within the region”.

Lloyd Conaway, vice-chair for the region, echoed the board’s support for Adam: “It’s great news that Adam has agreed to follow Sue Briggs in the role of CIMSPA Midlands Chair. Sue did a great job and during these important times for the institute I’m sure Adam will be terrific at continuing to drive things forward”
