Personal Development Practitioner for Athletes - contribute to the consultation!

The CIMSPA Professional Standards Framework is still expanding and we have a new standard out for consultation: Personal Development Practitioner for Athletes. This professional standard is the culmination of CIMSPA’s work with its technical partners to support the standardisation and professionalisation of the role of Personal Development Practitioner for Athletes.

This standard has been developed for the entry role of Personal Development Practitioner for Athletes and outlines the knowledge and skills required to operate in this role.

Job roles that are covered by this standard include: Performance Lifestyle Advisor, Player or Personal Development Manager and Education and Welfare Officer.

We have been asked to create clear career pathways for people to progress into and through the sector. These pathways should be underpinned by a set of Professional Standards that outline the core competencies for any sector job role. The Professional Standard for Personal Development Practitioner will join the CIMSPA Professional Standards Framework for the occupations, environments and populations in which people work within the sport and physical activity sector. Please view our standards library here.

Once this standard is published education providers will be able to seek endorsement from CIMSPA showing that their education programme not only meets the professional standard but adequately prepares practitioners to undertake this role. Practitioners that have met the competencies outlined in the standard can also become a member of their professional body and their employer may make this a requirement of their employment.

The publication of this professional standard will take place later this year. Employers will then have a single point of reference to standardise the recruitment, training and professional development of individuals working in this specialist role.

As well we the points outlined above, CIMSPA is seeking general feedback on this standard’s content from both individuals and organisations within the sector - especially those with particular expertise in this area.

The draft of the Personal Development Practitioner for Athletes Professional Standard can be downloaded at the link below. The same link is also the gateway into the consultation questionnaire.
