Royal Navy enlists as a CIMSPA Training Provider Partner

All three branches of the armed services now in partnership

Over the last couple of years, we have been working hard to onboard all service branches of the armed forces as training providers. In 2018, we worked with the Royal Air Force School of Physical Training to benchmark their specialist training course. More recently, we endorsed the Royal Army Physical Training Corps’ instructor courses.

This year we’ve been working closely with the Royal Navy School of Physical Training to bring them into CIMSPA partnership and to begin mapping their three courses to the sector’s professional standards.

The Royal Navy School of Physical Training delivers all qualifying courses for the PT Branch. Their courses cover basic coaching and officiating across a whole host of sports, plus experience in adventurous training and challenging activities.

“This partnership represents all the hard work we’ve been doing over the last couple of years to onboard the armed forces and get their physical training courses endorsed,” Ben Hulson, CIMSPA’s Regional Partnerships Manager, said. “The Royal Navy are a perfect example of a sector-leading training provider, and they offer many different routes through the physical activity sector.”

Lee Derbyshire, training officer at the Royal Navy said: “The Royal Naval Leading Physical Trainer Qualifying Course (LPTQC) attend HMS Temeraire in Portsmouth to start their journey into the PT Specialisation. They complete six months of training to ensure they are physically prepared for their role suitably aided by theory aspects to fully support their new career path and prepare them fully for their future Royal Navy role. It is of great importance that their training is recognised by civilian accreditation to aid their development.

“Our new partnership with CIMSPA recognises this course is the start in the endorsement process which will give our courses extra credibility and the professionalism attached to it.”
