Updated guidance on sport, physical activity and leisure in Scotland – 2 November 2020

The Scottish Government has introduced a new 5-Level approach to managing Covid-19, which comes into effect from today, 2 November.
The key guidance for coaches and trainers is:
Outdoors
Outdoor sport, group exercise and training can take place in groups of up to 30 people (including coaches) at all levels, while following all existing risk assessment, physical distancing and hygiene guidance.
- At Level 3, sport or physical activity involving contact between participants is permitted for those up to 18 years of age.
- At Level 4, sport or physical activity involving contact between participants is not permitted for any age group.
Indoors
Level 0:
- Gyms and indoor leisure facilities can remain open.
- Contact and non-contact sport and physical activity is permitted indoors for all age groups.
Level 1 & 2: - Gyms and indoor leisure facilities can remain open.
- Sport or physical activity involving contact between participants is permitted for those up to 18 years of age.
Level 3:
- Gyms and indoor leisure facilities can remain open.
- Sport or physical activity involving contact between participants is permitted for those up to 18 years of age.
- Adults over 18 can only exercise individually or with members of their own household, however indoor 1:1 coaching and personal training is permitted.
Level 4:- Gyms and indoor leisure facilities must close.
- Indoor sport and physical activity is not permitted between different households.
Coaches can take multiple indoor sessions per day, however the numbers allowed in each session will depend upon the protection level restrictions in place in the given location.
sportscotland defines contact sport or activity
as a sport or activity in which the participants necessarily come into bodily contact or as a matter of course encroach within 2m of one another, such as Judo, Netball and Basketball.Face coverings must be worn by coaches when indoors, except where an exemption applies or during physical activity (see the sportscotland guidance for more details).
