Candidate personal statement

Malcolm McPhail FCIMSPA

Personal statement:

I am in the very fortunate position of having a career that has spanned all sectors in sport and physical activity. I have worked in education, local authority, trust and private sectors. I am also a product of this environment having been a Scottish and British international athlete. My knowledge and experience of sport and physical activity is raw, real and comprehensive. In recent years, I have been a senior operations director in 2 outstanding companies: Next Generation Clubs, now David Lloyd Leisure and Life Leisure.

I have demonstrated outstanding leadership skills and a relentless pursuit of excellence sometimes in highly pressured environments. I thrive and am motivated when I achieve things that people say can't be done. I am loyal, passionate and I get things done. I would be a huge asset to the CIMSPA board. My record speaks for itself!

Personal vision for the institute:

I would describe myself as a visionary and very good at predicting future trends. This is a huge asset to have when delivering mission and strategy. This is not about what you see now it is what you predict will happen in 10-20 years.

I would introduce authenticity rather than accountability to our core functions. It's not about being held to account. It's about wanting to stand up and be held accountable because of your personal principles and beliefs.

I have held board positions or been involved in boardrooms for 20 years. I would want to work on a board that recognises inclusivity, diversity and enjoys challenging employees in a respectful motivational manner.

I would be a huge asset in communicating CIMSPA's mission, vision and passion. I have presented at The Flame Conference, The European Fitness Convention and The ukactive Summit. In summary, my Vision would be an organisation that was on point with recent trends that is valued by our younger members and indeed non-members through fantastic communicating and branding.
