Professional status is coming – is your learning up to date?

CIMSPA is reminding and encouraging all members to ensure that their qualifications, learning and CPD are up to date on the Member Portal ahead of the introduction of professional status in September.

All CIMSPA members are required to complete learning and develop their knowledge every year to maintain their membership, which demonstrates their dedication to their profession and shows customers and employers that they are competent and fit to practise.

As a CIMSPA member, what do I need to do and why?

CIMSPA’s Member Portal offers you the opportunity to upload confirmation of current and prior learning in the shape of certificates or other evidence. This evidence will then support your accreditation and help to ensure that you are issued the most appropriate professional status based on your qualifications, learning and skills.

Launching in September, professional status is a way to show the world that you are a trained, competent and highly skilled professional in your chosen career.

In occupations defined by the sector’s professional standards, there will be one or more professional statuses that indicate the level of expertise and experience you have in that role and as you progress in your career, you will be able to gain new professional statuses that celebrate your expertise.

Our Employer Partners can also support the recognition of their team by reminding and encouraging their staff to keep their qualifications and learning up to date on the Member Portal, helping to ensure that all their team members are seen as knowledgeable professionals who are dedicated to continuing professional development and the wellbeing of their customers.

Colin Huffen, Associate Director of Standards and Regulation at CIMSPA, said:

“With the forthcoming introduction of professional status for the sector’s workforce, it’s more important than ever that our members have uploaded all their relevant qualifications and learning to the portal. This will ensure that they are issued the correct status based on their skills, competencies and experience.

“We know how important it is for potential clients and employers that they can understand and verify a professional’s level of learning and expertise, particularly in relation to specialist skills needed to support participants with specific needs. The introduction of digital badging as part of professional status will help to simplify this process, increase the confidence the public and employers have in our workforce and our members and support them in making more informed choices.

“We are aware that some members may only be presenting us with the minimum amount of evidence in order to continue with their CIMSPA accreditation each year, when actually they have a much greater breadth of learning which both the member and the public could be using to their advantage. We would encourage those members to submit this learning to us via the Member Portal, and we’ll support them in gaining the professional recognition that their experience deserves.”
