Local skills work in Leicestershire, Leicester and Rutland

CASE STUDY

About the local skills pilot

Leicestershire was identified as 1 of 8 Local Skills Improvement Plan trailblazers across England. Alongside this, Leicestershire was selected as a strategic development fund (SDF) pilot area where CIMSPA worked in collaboration with local Further Education colleges and the Active Partnership for Leicestershire, Leicester & Rutland (LLR).

Sport and Physical Activity was identified as a priority sector for this strategic development fund pilot area.

The partnership engaged with 119 organisations across Leicestershire, Leicester and Rutland to understand existing and immediate skills needs through a skills diagnostic tool. The tool also identified current and expected recruitment gaps with the aim of informing curriculum design to meet the need of local employers. CIMSPA led on analysing the data and, with the Active Partnership for LLR, brought together existing data available through the Local Enterprise Partnerships (LLEP) to create a draft skills action plan, based on employer data and feedback. Full dataset available on request.
