CIMSPA responds to The UK’s Modern Industrial Strategy launch

Tara Dillon, CEO of CIMSPA, comments on the launch of the strategy.

Commenting on the recent launch of The UK’s Modern Industrial Strategy, Tara Dillon CEO of CIMSPA said,

“The publication of the UK’s new Industrial Strategy marks an important moment for the country in setting out how plans for growth can be delivered.

However, it also presents an opportunity to elevate physical activity from ‘nice-to-have’ to essential.

At CIMSPA we’ve long advocated for our sector to be recognised as foundational because an active population is essential for economic productivity, workforce resilience and social cohesion.

Our sector not only boosts public health and mitigates NHS pressure through preventive wellbeing, but also directly supports the Government’s priority industries like construction, advanced manufacturing and the green economy, by ensuring that every sector of industry has a healthy, active potential workforce that is able to sustainably deliver on productivity objectives.

Sport and physical activity must be placed a the heart of national skills investment in order to ensure that our own sector has a workforce that is equipped to support other industries. Through aligned funding, recognised professional standards, local delivery, and initiatives like the DWP Sport and Physical Activity Employability Academy our workforce and the sector can help to unlock far‑reaching gains in productivity and community wellbeing to support the delivery of the Industrial Strategy. CIMSPA stands ready to partner in realising this vision working in partnership with organisations across the sector who have pledged to support the Government’s work.”
