Five CPD courses to… specialise in working with children and young people

A recent study by the Royal Society for Public Health has found that the majority of children will be overweight or obese in nine areas of England by 2035. This means that the sport and physical activity sector now plays a more crucial role than ever before in the health and wellbeing of future generations.

If you currently work with children or young people or are looking to add this specialism to your skillset, we’ve featured five courses to help you develop the necessary skills to do so.

1. Building Foundations for Sport

This course is designed to upskill coaches and volunteers to deliver the Foundations Framework Wales sector-driven training for grassroots sport and physical activity for ages 3-11.

2. Inclusion and SEND in PE and school sport

3. Youth Athletic Development Webinar Series

5. Safeguarding & Protecting Children

During this interactive online workshop, you’ll raise your awareness of the tell-tale signs of abuse and gain the tools and confidence needed to deal with any issues sensitively, appropriately and effectively. You will be able to learn from expert tutors, all of whom have lived safeguarding experience, such as club welfare officers, schoolteachers or police officers.

What you’ll learn about:

  • Identifying and recognising good coaching practice and the implications for your coaching
  • Recognising safeguarding issues, what to do and, just as importantly, what not to do
  • Explore your values and feelings in relation to child abuse and recognise their potential impact on your response
  • Taking appropriate action if concerns about a child arise
