The Wales Workforce Professional Development Board (Wales WPDB) has been established to ensure CIMSPA meets the needs of the Welsh sport and physical activity sector and puts its people at the centre of the picture.
The board consists of a diverse range of members from senior leadership positions across the sector including Sport Wales, employers, educational institutions, training providers, National Governing Bodies, Welsh sporting organisations, specialist in diversity and experts in health and Welsh policy.

The Vision for the Welsh Sport and Physical Activity Workforce
The Welsh Professional Development board is ambitious and wants to see workforce planning, development and management at the heart of the Welsh sport and physical activity. The Vision for Welsh S&PA Workforce underpinned the work of the board.
Our aim is:
“To advocate for and support the Welsh sport and physical activity workforce. Highlighting the value and wider impact our sector has in Wales by recognising our people, their profession and the role they play in creating a healthier, happier Wales whilst developing and inspiring the current and future workforce.”
We will do this by:
- Ensuring the Welsh Professional Development Board members represent the whole sector, allowing us to look at sector workforce development through multiple lenses and connect with a wide network
- Collaborating with CIMSPA and key stakeholders to develop services and lobby for support that delivers outcomes based on the needs of the Welsh sport and physical activity sector
- Highlighting the importance of a professionally recognised sport and physical activity workforce to showcase our value, change mindsets and future proof our sector
- Utilising resources of data and insight to inform decision making, provide learning and support planning at a local and national level
- Striving to embed quality in the Welsh education system that is efficient, diverse and fit for purpose throughout an individual’s career to ensure our sector can develop the workforce dynamically and holistically
- Creating a sector that has inclusivity running through its veins, ensuring we are working with a range of communities and organisations that represent our current, and future, workforce and the people they lead at a local level

Focus: Advocate for the volunteer workforce in Wales and advise to create robust systems to support volunteers in sport and physical activity in Wales.

Focus: Supporting the sector to access suitable qualifications that meet the needs of learners, employers and providers in Wales.

Lee Jones
Focus: Acting as a voice for leisure employers across the sector to ensure people are inspired to work in leisure, health and wellbeing.

Mark Jones
Focus: Ensure that the outdoor sector has an equal representation and recognition as the rest of the sporting sector.

Mike Parry
Focus: Evolve skills development at a local level to harness the sectors potential.

Nic Beggs
Focus: Acting as a voice for leisure employers across the sector to ensure people can enjoy lifelong careers, with ample opportunity progression, and how stakeholders play a role in this.

Dr Rachael Newport
Focus: Ensuring there is disability representation, and the sector is accessible.

Rhian Pearce
Focus: Assessing the skills and the workforce of the sector whilst highlighting the impact to the health sector.

Robyn Lock
Focus: To professionally recognise the workforce and help them realise their impact on the population in Wales.

Focus: Supporting CIMSPA to ensure what is being offered is fit for purpose for performance sport organisation and high-performance workforce in Wales.

Focus: Ensuring that the sector is representative of the ethnic diversity that exists in Wales.
