The Matt Hampson Foundation inspires and supports young people seriously injured in sporting activity. Providing expert physiotherapy, specialist personal training, wellbeing, mentoring and practical advice, the Foundation helps people with life-changing injuries to ‘get busy living’ again, whether helping them back into work, education or sport, or supporting them in adapting to their new life.
Matt Hampson’s life and its impact on others changed in a split-second on a rugby field at the age of 20. Injured playing rugby, he was paralysed from the neck down and needing a ventilator to breathe.
Inspired by the support he had received, he created a charity to help other young people following life-changing injury in sport.
In 2018, the Matt Hampson Foundation opened its Get Busy Living Centre near Melton Mowbray in Leicestershire. Now Supporting around 60 beneficiaries per week. As part of the community Matt has created, beneficiaries can draw on the experience and knowledge of others on the same journey, developing the tools and skills to move on and retrain themselves to focus on what they can do, not what they can’t.
The Foundation team is also active in the health and fitness industry, sharing a unique combination of knowledge and experience of working with people with disabilities to help improve accessibility and inclusivity, with the ultimate goal of creating a world where any person with a disability can attend any commercial gym and find a space which works for them and professionals who understand how to work with them effectively.
