Workforce Governance & Registration Scheme Project Update

The Workforce Governance and Registration Scheme Project is a sector-wide piece of work with the objective of supporting, safeguarding and regulating the workforce to allow everyone taking part in sport and physical activity to enjoy safe and high-quality experiences, and to be supported in achieving their goals in a positive environment.

Introduction

The project is being led by CIMSPA (the Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity) working in partnership with Sport England and UK Sport, the National Governing Bodies of Sport, other sporting bodies and key stakeholders.

CIMSPA is committed to the success of this project, and we will be providing regular updates and engagement with all stakeholders throughout the next two years.

Project update: 16 November 2023

Since the project began, we have:

  • Analysed ‘Digital Touch Point 1’ survey responses received from a range of sporting bodies, to benchmark current levels of digital maturity for the future adoption of a national registration scheme.
  • Started the process of engaging with the sporting bodies on ‘Digital Touch Point 2’ workshops to explore and document the current processes, technology, and platforms used to manage the registration and membership of the organisation’s coaching workforce. 
  • Met with representatives of the insurance industry to discuss how this project can have a positive impact on insurance for everyone working in the sector.
  • Held a webinar with 60 key stakeholders working in Sporting and National Governing Bodies, to share the latest project developments.
  • Supported several Sporting and National Governing Bodies with the endorsement process for their newly developed training which is mapped to a number of different professional standards.
  • Supported several Sporting and National Governing Bodies with the standards for deployment policy document to move towards a proportionate and ‘right touch regulation’ approach to our learning and development that is centred on the participant.
  • Began work with a representative group of National Governing Bodies, in a ‘Task and Finish’ group to develop solutions to a number of challenges identified during the discovery phase, such as the ‘breadth’ of roles alongside the scope of ‘Sports Coach’ for the pilot.
  • Contributed to the DCMS call for evidence on sport integrity for the sector.
  • Contributed to the Home Office consultation on mandatory reporting of child sexual abuse.
