British Triathlon gain qualification endorsement for both their Foundation and Group Coaching Awards

British Triathlon, the National Governing Body for Triathlon in Great Britain, have successfully had two of their qualifications mapped against the CIMSPA professional standards for Coaching Assistant and Coach.

Both the Foundation Coach Award and Group Coach Award qualifications come with 10 CIMSPA CPD points on completion and serve to further build on British Triathlon’s portfolio of CIMSPA endorsed learning opportunities.

We caught up with Helen Marney, British Triathlon Director of Development, to get her take on the recent qualification endorsements.

“Working with CIMSPA to achieve accreditation for our courses has been an exciting step on our journey, which started with our research and insight from Project 21. This project, which started in 2021, engaged our coaches, activators, officials, and volunteers and got their feedback on our learning and development offering. This feedback helped us shape the courses and opportunities we offer today and led to us working closely with CIMSPA to ensure we build an education offer that’s fit for the future.

“The support we’ve received from CIMSPA to ensure our courses meet the highest standards has been fantastic. By achieving these standards, we provide our swim, bike, run and Triathlon workforce with the best possible education and learning experiences, in turn making the sport more accessible and able to provide great experiences to more people from all areas of society.

“British Triathlon is proud, alongside others, to take the lead in raising the bar in professional development standards. As we move into 2024, we’ll continue to work closely with CIMSPA to develop further learning opportunities, continuously improving both the learning opportunities we offer our coaches and the standards in our sector.”

Commenting on the ongoing relationship with British Triathlon Dr Vinny Webb, Head of Workforce Governance and Sporting Bodies at CIMSPA, said:

“It’s been a pleasure working with British Triathlon, it really has. It’s clear to see how dedicated they are to developing their education and learning framework.

“They are regarded a trailblazer when it comes to education and learning in the sport and physical activity sector, with their innovative approach combining skills development and blended learning. Central to this is their person-centred mindset that takes into consideration different environments and population groups.

“Their status as a CIMSPA ‘Enhanced’ rated partner, the highest standard that can be achieved by our partners, serves to further emphasise their credentials as a training provider.”

Vinny continued to comment on the impact of the endorsements for British Triathlon.

“With a growing number of employers committing to only using CIMSPA recognised training, this provides British Triathlon with a powerful ‘stamp of approval’ for both the organisation as a whole and their training offer.

“These endorsements accompany their Swim Bike Run Community Activator Award, Including Disabled People in Triathlon Award and the Technical Officials Safeguarding Award, all of which carry CIMSPA points and further serve to develop a robust sport and physical activity sector.”
