CIMSPA makes the Social Mobility Pledge

We are putting social mobility at the heart of what we do.

The pledge represents a strong shift towards being a truly purpose-led organisation committed to social mobility by committing to outreach, access, and recruitment.

The Social Mobility Pledge encourages companies to be a force for good. It is first-and-foremost a commitment, a rallying point for social mobility. We are embedding its goals and purpose at the heart of our organisation.

Covid exacerbated inequalities across the country, but these challenges can be overcome with a robust Social Mobility Action Plan. The growing opportunity gap can only be closed if we work together.

We believe in recruiting the best people regardless of their ethnicity, background, or beliefs. And have been practicing something called ‘anonymous recruiting’ for almost 18 months now. This involves us taking away our candidates’ names, home locations, date of birth. Anything that could distract our hiring manager from the content of the application.

Our Social Mobility Action Plan includes:

  • Working with our partners and the Social Mobility Pledge Coalition to offer quality careers advice and mentoring to those who need it most
  • Creating structured work experience and apprenticeship opportunities to train and work with people from a wide-range of backgrounds and experiences
  • Adopting transparent recruitment practices to promote a level playing field for people from disadvantaged groups.

It is a straightforward step that any organisation can take, and we strongly encourage our partners to join the coalition of over 500 organisations.

TAKE THE PLEDGE

Morwenna Crespin, People Development Manager at CIMSPA, said: “Social mobilty is something that is really important to us and more so in how we are best able to support the sector through Covid recovery projects. As there is a record number of jobs available across the UK, it has become very much a candidate market again, and the need to create the best environment for people to onboard and succeed in their new role is vital.

Organisations are finding they will need to work harder to build a culture that people believe in and what to thrive in. They need to support both the current and next generations of the workforce to access a wide array of opportunities, but also to eliminate the negative impact Covid will have had on a lot of people.”
