Elevate: The arena of health, exercise and performance

With physical inactivity moving higher and higher up the Public Agenda, an increasing number of organisations are looking for ways they can tackle this issue.

Elevate - an event taking place at Olympia London at the beginning of May 2016 is hoping to make such a task a lot easier by exploring the ways in which exercise, health and performance connect. The new trade event is taking place in the capital on May 4-5 and will bring together industry leaders, academics, practitioners, policy makers and performance experts to focus on getting the nation moving.

Thousands of these professionals will gather to see the launch of Elevate, facilitating the discussions needed for future health and performance innovation. Over the course of two days, the event will welcome more than 4,000 visitors, all benefiting from an extensive seminar programme and exhibition boasting 100’s of speakers and exhibitors. Speakers from Public Health England, ISEH, Sport and Recreation Alliance, TFL, London Sport, Sheffield Hallam University, EIS, Nuffield Health, and GSK Human Performance Lab, to name just a few, will provide complimentary seminars, encouraging debate and an open forum to discuss key issues affecting the health of the nation.

Max Quittenton, Director of Elevate, comments: “Tackling physical inactivity is widely recognised as politically, economically and socially more important than ever. An independently researched, balanced, free-to-attend event of scale, in London, will help accelerate progress first regionally, then nationally and in the near future internationally.”

Dr Ken Van Someren, Head of Research & Development at the GSK Human Performance Lab, comments: “Elevate is a much needed cross-sector event that will explore the ways in which exercise, health and performance connect. If we are to turn the tide on physical inactivity, it is important that all stakeholders, influencers, suppliers and educators work together. I’m looking forward to gathering knowledge and ideas, as well as contributing my perspective on practical recommendations for the optimisation of athletic recovery and performance.”

Professor Charlie Foster from the University of Oxford is a leader of physical activity and public health in the UK, and will be chairing a talk on physical activity as preventative care at the event. Charlie comments: “The UK Chief Medical Officers have prioritised physical activity and the new infographics for adults, children and young people will be essential tools for all health and fitness professionals to use to promote physical activity. Elevate brings together different sectors which, working together, have a much better chance of achieving success than working in silo.”
