New faces join CIMSPA team

Two new team members have joined CIMSPA as the new year begins. Colin Huffen moves into post as the CIMSPA’s head of education, and Kelly Hogervorst joins as maternity cover for regional officer Anna Wilson.

Colin Huffen

Head of education

CIMSPA’s new head of education is Colin Huffen, who will lead on all aspects of the chartered institute’s work regarding education and professional standards to develop a sector wide skills agenda and education programme.

Colin joins CIMSPA with 20 years experience in the sport and leisure industry. His previous role was strategic lead for policy with The Association of Colleges, leading a number of new policy developments in further education, and has also worked with Sports Coach UK, SkillsActive, the ASA and Loughborough College.

Speaking about his new role, Colin said: “I’m really looking forward to working with CIMSPA’s members, partners and employers. I see this as as crossroads for the sport and active leisure industry – having been listed in recent government strategies as well as gaining chartered status, CIMSPA has a great opportunity to promote what a fantastic sector this is to work in. I’m particularly looking forward to getting involved in our work on professional standards.”

Kelly Hogervorst

Event officer (maternity cover for Anna Wilson)

Kelly joins CIMSPA fresh from higher education, having completed both an MSc in event management from Coventry University and a 4-year undergraduate degree in European Studies at The Hague University in the Netherlands.

Her first project will be managing CIMSPA’s partnership with Quest NBS for the forthcoming joint conference, 14-15 March 2017. In between her two degrees Kelly, who was born in the Netherlands and has Dutch/English parents, worked in event management – organising workshops, training courses and annual conferences in the European knowledge transfer sector.

Kelly is enthusiastic about her work with the chartered institute over the coming months: “working for CIMSPA combines the things I enjoy the most in a job – working in a sporting environment but being on the organisational side of it all. Taking over as the maternity cover for Anna, is the perfect opportunity to take the next step in my career. I am very excited to start this new position and can’t wait to meet some of you soon.”
