Sporta awards success for CIMSPA partners

CIMSPA employer and skills development partners had a great night at the recent 2017 Sporta Awards, returning with wins in 6 of the 11 awards up for grabs, at the annual event in Sheffield on Wednesday 17 May.

Sporta, which represents cultural and leisure trusts and social enterprises throughout the UK, holds the annual ceremony to champion and showcase the outstanding achievements of Sporta trusts, and to further promote the unique and distinctive nature of leisure and culture trusts.

The Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity (CIMSPA), which works closely with Sporta, sponsored the 2017 Workforce Development Award.

This year’s Workforce Development Award was taken by GLL UK in recognition of their highly successful Management Academy and they received the award on the night from CIMSPA Interim Chair Andy Reed OBE. It turned out to be a double success for GLL UK as Karen De Sa took the Outstanding Individual Achievement award.

For the Successful Partnerships category, CIMSPA partners took both large and small trust awards. Tees Active won for their innovative “Club 55” shopping centre-based activity series, with London’s Jubilee Hall Trust recognised for their “Energy Club” children’s activity programme, as used by 11 local schools.

“Actilife”, an online activity app to encourage positive activity and lifestyle changes, was employer partner Life Leisure’s route to victory in the Engaging Inactive People (large trust) award, whilst corporate partners Sandwell Leisure Trust triumphed in the Volunteer of the Year Award category.
