CIMSPA endorses CPD from sportscotland

This is a major milestone for the partnership between CIMSPA and sportscotland.

This month CIMSPA has endorsed two CPD modules from sportscotland. These courses have been developed by sportscotland to support Scottish sport in providing the sport and physical activity workforce with the knowledge on child wellbeing and protection that will give them the confidence to deal with issues that may arise in their role working with children.

The courses are recognised as the lead training for safeguarding in Scotland. These endorsements see CIMSPA supporting the wider sporting workforce in Scotland. Moving forward, CIMSPA will be endorsing more CPD over the duration of our partnership.

The two courses are:

  • Child Wellbeing and Protection in Sport (CWPS) – 4 CIMSPA CPD points
  • Child Wellbeing and Protection Officer (CWPO) – 3 CIMSPA CPD points

Clare Dunn, Partnerships Manager at CIMSPA said:

“CIMSPA and sportscotland are working closely to ensure the workforce of Scotland have access to quality training opportunities. Working together in partnership, the first Professional Development Board has been created for partners in Scotland and it’s great to have the initial two CPD courses from sportscotland fully endorsed against CIMSPA’s professional standards”.

CWPS has been developed in partnership with Children 1st and takes a blended learning approach. This includes an online theory-based module followed by a face-to-face learning intervention. It is suitable for all adults involved in sports organisations that have under 18 participants. It is targeted at all practitioners working and volunteering directly with children and young people.

The CWPO training is designed to support individuals who are responsible for leading their club or organisation in the wellbeing and protection of children and young people. Learners have the opportunity to develop knowledge and skills to manage concerns through the use of interactive case studies and group work.

These endorsements come almost a year after CIMSPA and sportscotland entered a Memorandum of Understanding and Trust. In November 2019, CIMSPA and sportscotland enhanced this partnership by appointing our first jointly managed team member with the recruitment of Susie Benson as a Corporate Partnerships Executive.

CIMSPA will continue working closely with sportscotland in the future.
