CPD highlight - Biomechanics Education

CIMSPA partners Biomechanics Education’s mission is to “improve movement through Education”.

They aim to do this through evidence-based intrinsic biomechanics systems they have created which are helping both exercise professionals and therapists develop and improve interdisciplinary communications. Biomechanics Education have collected isokinetic machine results data from GB Athletes and the general public on their biomechanics and movement abilities – more than 4.5k subjects over 20 years. This data has been compared with evidence based manual assessments with strong results – in some cases 97% gold standard lab test accuracy has been achieved.

Biomechanics Education have affiliations with the PGA, Esporta Health clubs, South Yorkshire Police, Dorset Fire & Rescue, England Rugby and several universities. They have created high quality education programmes ranging from a revolutionary 1 day iMoveFreely Instructor workshop which is worth 7 CIMSPA CPD points, aimed at level 2 group exercise instructors, right up to a level 4 Low Back Pain Specialist Diploma in Biomechanics Coaching.

Biomechanics Education MD, Rachel France described her business and its unique offer: “We are extremely passionate about the learner education experience. Lifting the confidence levels of exercise professionals and therapists inclusively, particularly in application with the client to encouraging good practice and clarity of remit.

“Right from the outset CIMSPA have been extremely proactive in communicating with, and supporting us. Working with CIMSPA over the last couple of years we have felt ‘heard and supported’. They have also given us a voice in what happens within our industry and the work CIMSPA are doing to improve the quality and standards in the industry is not only fantastic but also refreshing!

“While it will clearly take time, it finally feels like much needed changes are starting to happen.”

At the Biomechanics Education Academy, something which is taken very seriously is the quality of the learning experience. Master trainers go through a minimum of an 18-24 month training process depending upon their starting point.

Rachel said of the external quality assurance (EQA) experience, “It was great to get some feedback from CIMSPA about our performance and practice when we welcomed Jane Mellors and the EQA team in November 2018 to assess our iMoveFreely instructor workshop.

“The CIMSPA assessment concluded that we offered a strong understanding of regulatory requirements of qualifications and that our training was well organised, demonstrated good practice. We’re obviously very proud of the results.”
