New project to improve skills in sport administration

Education and career pathways for sport administrators has often been a neglected area of workforce development in the sport sector: until now. A new project, co-funded by the Erasmus+ programme of the European Union, is working to develop occupational standards and pilot training for sport administrators at the European level.

  • The project, led by the European Observatoire of Sport and Employment (EOSE), brings together a consortium of partners from 10 different European countries and 4 European associations to explore skills issues in sport administration.
  • The first major project activity was a labour market survey which was completed by 350 organisations involved in sport administration across Europe.
  • The project will also see the production of an occupational map, occupational standards, an education strategy, and a pilot training course. The University of Chester will lead on the development of the pilot training.
  • The most recent activities have been a partner meeting in Copenhagen and the launch of the project website.

Running sport is an increasingly complex business, this innovative project will ensure those working in national and international federations and others involved in sport administration have the skills to succeed in the modern sport and physical activity environment.
