About the refreshed standards
The standards will help ensure colleges are well placed to deliver on the new DCMS sport strategy, “Sporting future”.
The refreshed standards have been updated to reflect both the 2015 Ofsted common inspection framework and AoC Sport’s own 2015-2020 national strategy for college sport and physical activity.
Colleges can use “Towards outstanding” to ensure quality across a range of areas and help embed sport and physical activity across the curriculum. This includes factors such as; community links and collaboration, working with disengaged and inactive young people to improve mental and physical health, engaging employers to meet workforce requirements, and working with CIMSPA – the professional body for the sport and physical activity sector in the UK.
“Towards outstanding” is set within the context of the current national and political drive towards improving standards across a range of industries and sectors. and offers a range of good practice examples from various colleges across the country.
Colleges can use the standards and self-assessment tool to deliver on themes outlined in the DCMS strategy, including:
- Individual development
- Social and community development
