Professional standards update – November

November was another busy month for CIMSPA’s professional standards development work, with substantial progress on a number of fronts. Here’s a few highlights:

CIMSPA professional development board

Wednesday 23 November – London

A very positive meeting of the board which supervises the work of individual professional development committees.

The board agree that CIMSPA will use the newly-developed recreation assistant professional standard to help develop an apprenticeship for recreation assistants, allowing sector employers to use their apprenticeship levy on this job role, and support the sector’s future workforce.

PDC leaders will also meet to develop a timescale and sequence for future standards development. This will be shared withe sector in the new year.

Remember that CIMSPA employer, skills development and awarding organisation partners will all be given the opportunity to shape these standards for the sector.

Leisure operations professional development committee (PDC)

Monday 14 November – Loughborough

At this meeting the PDC completed the final version of the professional standards for recreation assistant and leisure operations general manager. Both will now go to CIMSPA’s professional development board (PDB) for final sign-off for remote sign off throughout December.

Work has now started on assessment strategies, endorsement and quality assurance process for these standards so the new year will see CIMSPA be able to endorse education products against these professional standards.

Tuesday 29 November – Loughborough

The focus of this second meeting within a month was standards development for lifeguard and swimming teacher job roles. These standards will go out for consultation in November to employer partners and other sector experts.

Tuesday 15 November 2016

With exercise and fitness professionals now the fastest growing segment of our membership,

This meeting focused on developing the fitness instructor, group exercise instructor and personal trainer professional standards, which together are clearly the highest priority for this sector segment. The standards will go out to CIMSPA partners and sector experts for consultation in December.
