Through their new Education and Learning Pathway, British Triathlon are mapping their courses to CIMSPA’s professional standards, with the aim of developing and improving the quality of learning and development in swim, bike and run and the wider sports sector.
The British Triathlon Swim Bike Run Community Activator course provides nine CIMPSA CPD points and is aligned to the professional standard for Working with Inactive People. British Triathlon are the first National Governing Body of Sport to map their learning against the Inactive People standard.

“Here at British Triathlon, we want to grow our sport in our traditional settings of clubs and events whilst simultaneously opening our sport to local communities. Our participation aspirations are aligned with our education ambitions, this is all coming into alignment for us in 2023 and marks the start of an exciting future for swim, bike, run.
“We would love to hear from organisations wishing to upskill volunteers in their local communities to develop participation opportunities, supporting people to become active through swim, bike and run. We are modernising our approach to learning and will be offering the British Triathlon Community Activator course through a franchise option supporting local communities to upskill people within their organisations and communities.”
British Triathlon are also preparing to launch their Foundation Coach and Group Coach courses, which will be mapped against the CIMSPA professional standards for coaching.
Commenting on the partnership, Dr Vinny Webb, Head of Workforce Governance at CIMSPA said: “British Triathlon have worked with us to develop this innovative programme of learning. They are also one of the forerunners in the NGB world with the development of a population specialism learning course that maps to the Professional Standard.
