CIMSPA statement on Budget funding
£63 million is being made available to help leisure centres with pools, vital community resources, through the current financial pressures they face.
Publicly-owned leisure centres with swimming pools have been handed a financial boost following the announcement of a major new fund ahead of this week’s Spring Budget.
On Wednesday, the Chancellor of the Exchequer will outline that £63 million of new money will be made available in a one-year fund.
The fund, which will be managed by Sport England, will allow local authorities to apply for funding for leisure centres with pools that face immediate cost pressures including operational and maintenance costs, and energy bills.
Responding to the announcement, Tara Dillon, CEO of CIMSPA, said,
“We are delighted that the Chancellor has responded to the sector’s collective calls for support in the face of high energy costs. This money will be vitally important in helping these essential community facilities to get through the current energy cost crisis, as well as enabling them to become more energy efficient in the longer term. It also shows a welcome commitment to the health and wellbeing of the millions of people who rely on these facilities each day.”
