New and updated Guidance Notes - now available
Our guidance notes are exclusive to CIMSPA members and are designed to give you practical support and resources for a huge number of topics covering a range of sports and physical activities.
The new guidance notes are focused around appropriate lifeguard footwear, appropriate swimwear and breastfeeding in the swimming pool.
These are supported by updated versions of two existing guidance notes that cover lifeguarding and supervision and swimming pool admission and access.
New Guidance Notes
Appropriate Lifeguard Footwear
This information provides guidance to ensure any footwear a lifeguard wears whilst at work is appropriate for the role and sufficiently risk assessed.
It also looks at the factors that should be considered as part of the risk assessment such as the tasks expected to do whilst on poolside, tasks expected to do whilst off poolside and environmental factors.
Appropriate Swimwear
Having a swimwear policy can give users clarity and confidence on what to wear when using your swimming pool. These guidelines are designed to make swimming more inclusive and tackle some of the barriers that prevent people from taking part.
Topics covered are appropriate swimwear for adults and children, transgender users and inappropriate swimwear.
Breastfeeding in the Swimming Pool
Takes a look at the relevant legislation and guidance from The Equality Act 2010 which details conditions that must be upheld to ensure a woman breastfeeding is not discriminated against, harassed or victimised.
It also tackles some of the myths surrounding breastfeeding in the swimming pool such as:
- Can breastmilk ‘pollute’ the pool?
- What if the baby vomits in the pool?
- What about the ‘no eating’ rule?
