Workforce Governance & Registration Scheme Project - Update 15 December
The Workforce Governance and Registration Scheme Project is a sector-wide piece of work with the objective of supporting, safeguarding and regulating the workforce to allow everyone taking part in sport and physical activity to enjoy safe and high-quality experiences, and to be supported in achieving their goals in a positive environment.
Introduction
The project is being led by CIMSPA (the Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity) working in partnership with Sport England and UK Sport, the National Governing Bodies of Sport, other sporting bodies and key stakeholders.
CIMSPA is committed to the success of this project, and we will be providing regular updates and engagement with all stakeholders throughout the next two years.

Project update: 15 December 2023
Since the previous update, we have continued to see excellent engagement and have been working with sporting and National Governing Bodies on several aspects of the project:
- Created a working group to provide insight into a number of aspects of the project, such as DBS, Code of Conduct, whistleblowing and safeguarding.
- 67% of sporting and National Governing Bodies have now completed Digital Touch Point 1 to benchmark current levels of digital maturity for the future adoption of a national registration scheme.
- Delivered a further six ‘Digital Touch Point 2’ workshops to explore and document the current processes, technology and platforms used to manage the registration and membership of the coaching workforce.

- Collaborated with the CIMSPA Policy and Professional Services team, feeding back on our conversations with sporting bodies on the topics of Professional Standards and the Standards for Deployment policy.
- British Triathlon has achieved endorsement of its Foundation Coach and Group Coach Awards, against Coaching Assistant and Coach Professional Standards respectively, alongside Safeguarding for Technical Officials. These join the courses already endorsed, from the British Council for Chinese Martial Arts, Rugby Football Union and Rugby Football League. Other sports are also working towards similar endorsements of their courses.
