CIMSPA signs the Armed Forces Covenant

The Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity (CIMSPA) has officially signed the Armed Forces Covenant and have joined the Employer Recognition Scheme.

The Armed Forces Covenant is a commitment to acknowledging and understanding that those who serve or have served in the Armed Forces, including their families, should be treated with fairness and respect in the communities, economy and society they serve with their lives.

Witnessed by CIMSPA members of staff, CEO Tara Dillon and Major Steve Goodwin from the Ministry of Defence were present on the day to sign the document.

The Covenant reinforces the promise to support the employment of veterans, recognising military skills and qualifications in our recruitment process, as well as supporting them during their career post-serving.

Over 8,000 personnel left military service last year, with the sport and physical activity sector being a popular route of employment for those who chose to seek work.

Tara Dillon, CEO of CIMSPA said:

“It is a huge honour to be signing the Armed Forces Covenant, which demonstrates our commitment to support those who have served for our country.

“As an organisation who holds huge value in people, empowerment and commitment, we are proud to support our current staff members who are previous military personnel, and we recognise the incredible impact and contribution they have made.

“We look forward to working with the Armed Forces and be able to support those who are leaving their roles and turn to our sector.”

Major Stephen Goodwin, Representative from The Ministry of Defence said:

“Employer support for the wider Military Community but particularly the Reserves is fundamental to and strengthens national security. It fosters employee well-being and builds stronger organisations and communities.

“Hiring a veteran or supporting a Reservist isn’t just a way to show support, it’s a strategic decision that brings exceptional talent and values to an organisation. They are adaptable, dependable, and bring unique perspectives that can help businesses thrive in a competitive marketplace.”
