New Partnership to Boost FE Student Employability in Oxfordshire

We are delighted to announce a new partnership with Activate Learning, which will help colleges in Oxfordshire to tailor sport and physical activity qualifications and learning to meet the needs of local employers and enhance career prospects for learners.

Set to launch in September 2024 at City of Oxford College and Banbury College, this unique curriculum will be carefully crafted to align with the priorities and requirements of the local sport and physical activity workforce.

Our new Further Education (FE) partnership scheme, is specifically designed to enable colleges to meet the needs of local employers and support learners to develop the skills and knowledge needed to work in a range of areas across the sector including sports facilities, gyms, swimming pools, and community centres.

As a partner, Activate Learning will be working with CIMSPA to use the latest insights and sector workforce intelligence gained from skills diagnostics conducted with employers in the County through our Local Skills Project. The qualifications will also be mapped to the sector’s Professional Standards. This approach ensures that the curriculum precisely aligns with the current demands of the local job market and the needs of employers, equipping learners to progress to a successful career in the sector.

Natasha Eason, Associate Director of Education at CIMSPA, said, “This partnership will provide students with comprehensive and enhanced learning opportunities, equipping professionals of the future with all the tools necessary to thrive in the industry and deliver a high standard of practice in their fields.”

Andrew Slater, Group Director for Lifestyles Faculty & Banbury & Bicester College and BBL Campus said, “Activate Learning is passionate about creating opportunities for career success. This partnership aligns perfectly with our mission, providing students with the qualifications and real-world experience they need to flourish in the exciting world of leisure.”

As part of the ongoing work to bring together the right skills, in the right places at the right time, the partnership with Active Learning is also supported by CIMSPA Employer Partner, Greenwich Leisure Limited (GLL), who are providing quality work placements for learners, helping them to develop connections which will benefit them on completion of their course.

Gary Starkey, Head of Service for Oxfordshire at GLL, emphasises their commitment to community support, job creation, and career development, stating “This collaboration marks a pivotal moment for Oxfordshire, ensuring a continuous influx of qualified professionals dedicated to promoting active, healthy lifestyles across the community.”
