Mental Health Awareness Week 2024

This year’s Mental Health Awareness Week will take place from 13 to 19 May with the theme of “Movement: Moving more for our mental health”.

One of the most important things you can do to help protect your mental health is regular movement. Moving more can increase your energy, reduce stress and anxiety, and boost your self-esteem. Check out the top tips from the Mental Health Foundation including:

  • Find moments for movement every day
  • Set small, achievable goals
  • Take a break from sitting
  • Find the fun
  • Connect with others
  • Move in nature
  • Try something new
  • Plan things to look forward to

The aim of this initiative is to help people find moments for movement in their daily routines, whether that be going for a walk in their local neighbourhood, chair exercises when watching TV or helping to find an exercise class in their locality.

There are lots of resources and support that can help to equip us to feel more confident. Here are some of the resources you can use for Mental Health Awareness Week.

Resources

If you deliver physical activity sessions, you’re not expected to be a mental health expert. But you have a duty of care to support the people in your sessions. And often, small, everyday actions can make a big difference. Mind have created support and resources specifically for those working in sport and physical activity.

Spot. Support. Signpost

Don’t forget - if you haven’t already you can listen to the latest edition of our podcast which includes an interview with Sam Perks from Mind who talks about their work in the sector.

Give it a listen

We have also signposted some of the great opportunities to develop your knowledge and skill set in this area focusing on UK Coaching and SkillGate.

CPD opportunities

There are CPD opportunities specifically focused on mental health and wellbeing in our new training directory, and we’ll be sharing more resources over the next month.
