CIMSPA Welcomes NHS England’s statement on physical activity

Published on Tuesday, the statement addresses the key benefits that physical activity can have to health and wellbeing.

Harnessing the benefits of physical activity details the positive impact that physical activity can make for the prevention, management and treatment of health conditions, and the economic savings that can be made through participation.

Welcoming the statement, Tara Dillon, CEO of CIMSPA said:

“It’s incredibly encouraging to see NHS England publicly acknowledge the importance of physical activity and provide ways that participation can be encouraged amongst NHS patients.

Our sector workforce has a vital role in influencing members of our community to become more physically active, and the health sector recognising this is a huge step forward.

Continuing to embed our sector professionals into healthcare means that they can use their skills and knowledge to develop and deliver activity programmes that support people living with long-term conditions, both physical and mental, which impacts their daily lives.

It’s fantastic to see that our partners GM Active have been recognised by NHS England in this statement for their work on the Prehab4Cancer and Recovery programme, which is a great example of how integrating physical activity into clinical pathways can help patients recover more effectively.

It’s also great that NHS England are acknowledging the importance of physical activity amongst their workforce, which will only help to improve wellbeing and reduce staff absences.

The sport and physical activity sector is more ready than ever to collaborate and support NHS services and their personnel in encouraging our nation to become more physically active. We look forward to working with the health sector to unlocking our potential.”
