Exclusive member webinar - Working with Children: What does good look like and what is the latest research telling us?

Member webinar graphic.jpgThis month we are joined by Clare Roberts, Strategic Lead for Foundations and Participation at Sport Wales and Dr Nalda Wainwright, Associate Professor for Health and Physical Literacy at the University of Wales Trinity St David (UWTSD) to look at cross sector evidence based approaches to working with children that supports the sport and physical activity workforce.

By attending this session you will learn about:

  • The need for a good practice guide, appreciating the role of stakeholders in the creation of a cross-sector framework and the importance of consistency in good practice.
  • The latest research on children’s motor development and the implications for your practice. Including a look at what the evidence and research tells us about the importance of motor development in early childhood to support sport and physical activity.
  • The importance of a workforce that understands developmentally appropriate approaches to activities for young children.
  • The role of the ‘Building Foundations for Sport’ course in workforce development.

Associate Professor and Director of the Wales Academy of Health and Physical Literacy at the University of Wales Trinity Saint David (UWTSD)

Nalda leads a team of researchers examining programmes to support physical literacy in different contexts. The main focus of her work is to translate research into practice which has positive, measurable impacts in communities.

She has delivered keynote presentations nationally and internationally about the UWTSD research and professional development programmes, most recently at the International Physical Literacy Conference, hosted by the Olympic Committee in Bahrain.

Nalda is a co-founder of MiniMovers, which supports parents to lay foundations of movement at home and support an active healthy future.

Foundations and Participation Lead at Sport Wales

Clare is the Foundations and Participation Lead at Sport Wales, where she leads on several strategic priorities, including Foundations Framework Wales, physical literacy, and promoting the use of school facilities for community use.

With a background in teaching across primary and secondary schools, Clare has a wealth of experience in understanding the transitions children experience throughout their life course, which informs the holistic and inclusive approach to sport and physical activity.
