National Fitness Day set for September
From gym operators to university students and everyone in the UK, ukactive is encouraging all to participate in National Fitness Day 2023.
The theme for the day – 20 September – is #YourHealthIsForLife. This year’s campaign focuses on three key areas: mental health, nutrition and recovery, and physical activity, according to ukactive, the organiser.
Working with ukactive in partnership for the day are Movember and Endurance Zone.
Thousands of free activities will be hosted by gyms, swimming pools, leisure centres, sports clubs, workplaces, schools, and online providers for people in all UK communities to raise awareness of fitness, ukactive said. An example of an activity set for the day is the ‘10@10’ in which children are encouraged to do 10 minutes of physical activity at 10am on the designated day. Elaborating, ukactive said: “This could be an Active Mile whereby children (and teachers!) can walk, run, skip or hop their way around a mile.”
More than a quarter of the population in England is classed as inactive – averaging fewer than 30 minutes of exercise a week, according to Sport England’s latest Active Lives Survey.
In 2022, National Fitness Day saw participation reach an estimated 11m people, including over 4m children and young people, and the total audience for the campaign hit more than 50m through social media, TV, radio and the press, ukactive said.
