Gympass reveals its Year in Motion 2023

Global corporate wellness network Gympass has published its Year in Motion 2023 report.

The wellbeing platform analysed hundreds of millions of check-ins made by Gympass subscribers across nine different industries, including financial, tech, manufacturing, and retail, shedding light on wellness habits and key emerging trends.

Throughout the year, Gympass members collectively completed 150,837,671 check-ins. Some of the results include:

  • Employees prioritised well-being regardless of their industry, frontline and non-desk workers included. Financial services led in active engagement, but the gap between sectors is shrinking.
  • After-work(outs) brought new meaning to happy hour: 6pm and 7pm emerged as the clear favourites for workout times across all industries, with 5pm as the next most popular time.
  • September is the new January: September boasted a whopping 50% more check-ins compared to January, officially dethroning January as the ultimate month for wellness commitments.
  • So much for #MotivationMondays: Users consistently favoured Tuesdays for check-ins, followed by Wednesdays and Thursdays.
  • Sundays and Saturdays were the least likely days for activities across all industries, however, employees working in financial services displayed a higher likelihood for weekend activities.
  • Developing healthy habits became a top priority: The usage of habit-tracking apps in the Healthy Habits category surged by 111% year-over-year, signifying a substantial shift as individuals actively engage in and track their health-promoting routines and behaviours such as sleep and water intake.
  • Pickleball craze continues: Pickleball has been steadily gaining popularity, and it shows no signs of slowing down. Gympass locations dedicated to pickleball saw a 214% increase in check-ins YoY. This surge in usage highlights the growing demand and appeal of this engaging and accessible sport. As Pickleball’s popularity continues to grow, it becomes an even more attractive option for individuals looking for a fun and inclusive way to stay active and socialise, particularly among the workforce.
  • According to Gympass’ 2024 State of Work-Life Wellness report, the vast majority of employees (96%) look for employers who prioritise wellbeing. In fact, 93% of global employees believe that wellbeing is equally important as salary, and 87% of workers say they would consider leaving a company that does not focus on employee wellbeing.

Companies are realising that understanding the importance of caring for employees is step one. Prioritising and driving the adoption of employee wellbeing programmes also means staying on top of the latest wellness trends, interests and emerging habits.

The Gympass Year in Motion 2023 analysed more than 200 million Gympass check-ins from more than two million employee subscribers made over the past 24 months to analyse year-over-year trends.
