Refurb for six Active Tameside centres

Six of Active Tameside’s centres have undergone a complete gym transformation as part of the charitable trust’s reinvestment commitment to provide “high quality, inclusive and accessible facilities to improve health and wellbeing”.

The phased installation of state-of-the-art Life Fitness equipment at Active iTrain in Dukinfield, Active Medlock in Droylsden, Active Hyde, Active Copley in Stalybridge, Active Ashton and Active Ken Ward in Hattersley began in October.

Active Ken Ward was the final piece in the gym jigsaw which was reopened following its refurbishment on 24 November.

Made possible by a two-year extension to the not-for-profit organisation’s core contract with Tameside Metropolitan Borough Council (TMBC), the gym environments have also undergone a transformation with new workout spaces including wall graphics, visuals and lighting to create a premium experience for members and casual members.

The new equipment includes Tameside’s first Certified Hammer Strength Centre at Active iTrain, alongside a range of smart interactive cardio machines with built-in entertainment. There are fully-equipped resistance and strength training areas at all six centres.

Cardio kit – provided by leading global fitness equipment provider Life Fitness – is synced to the popular Halo Fitness App which enables users to record workouts, track progress and goal achievements, access Active Tameside personal trainer workouts and connect with other fitness devices.

Active Tameside has also collaborated with ServiceSport UK, a Chorley-based company which, alongside looking after gym sites for the likes of the Royal Navy, the Ministry of Defence and Manchester United, buys back equipment to refurbish and recondition, which is then sold on affordably around the world.

The gym refurbishment follows an extensive 18-month reinvestment programme for Active Tameside including partnering with TMBC to open a six-lane, 25-metre pool at Active Hyde and the launch of a rooftop space complete with an outdoor gym, workout zones and a sensory garden at Tameside Wellness Centre in Denton.

Alongside operating community leisure centres across the borough, Active Tameside provides a programme of health and social care intervention services – including its Everybody Can service – in partnership with TMBC.

Active Tameside is a charitable trust and reinvests profits back into providing high-quality leisure facilities and services designed to change lives.
