£150k investment supports Diamond League meeting

UK Sport has announced an award of up to £150,000 to support delivery of the 2023 Diamond League taking place at the London Stadium on Sunday 23 July.

The National Lottery major event funding is designed to cover a proportion of the projected deficit in hosting this year’s event and support a transition towards the long-term viability of the UK hosting an annual Diamond League meeting.

Funding will also help support the future pipeline of major international athletics events being hosted in the UK.

UK Sport has invested £1.45m in the 2024 World Indoor Athletics Championships in Glasgow, and £3m in the 2026 European Athletics Championships in Birmingham.

“We want the UK to remain on the Diamond League calendar and for the event to become financially sustainable as quickly as possible,” Sally Munday, CEO of UK Sport said.

“We are looking forward to working collaboratively with our colleagues at UK Athletics in the build-up to the event and beyond to try to ensure this happens.”
