Exercising for 11 minutes a day helps health
A new study published in the British Journal of Sports Medicine found that 11 minutes of exercise each day can have major benefits on health and longevity.
The report, which was published last week as a meta-analysis of more than 194 articles that addressed more than 30m participants worldwide, featured those who self-reported activity levels for at least three years.
A meta-analysis is a statistical analysis that combines the results of multiple scientific studies.
Researchers sought to examine the correlation between physical activity and chronic disease and mortality in adults. The study found that exercising at a moderate to high intensity for just 11 minutes a day was linked to a 23% lower risk of early death, a 17% lower risk of developing cardiovascular disease (CVD) and a 7% lower risk of cancer.
The UK Chief Medical Officers’ Guidelines recommend that adults take part in at least 150 minutes of moderate intensity activity or 75 minutes of vigorous activity.
Ultimately, researchers said that doing some daily physical activity is better than none and suggested that threshold-based recommendations for activities be further reduced.
