London Aquatics Centre gets seal of approval from Team GB champs

British champion swimmers Adam Peaty and Maisie Summers-Newton have launched a partnership for the London Aquatics Centre (LAC) alongside its new operator, Everyone Active.

Everyone Active has begun operating the LAC from 1 March, which is situated at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, running the building on behalf of the London Legacy Development Corporation (LLDC).

The eight-year contract covers the management of the Dame Zaha Hadid-designed facility, boasting two 50-metre pools, a distinctive dive pool featuring renowned diving platforms, alongside a state-of-the-art 100-station gym, café and amenities.

Paralympic swimmer Summers-Newton won her first world title at the LAC at the 2019 World Para Swimming Championships for the SM6 200m Individual Medley.

She also works closely with Everyone Active on the organisation’s Sporting Champions scheme, serving as a mentor to budding athletes aspiring to follow in her footsteps.

For Peaty, the LAC also holds special significance, being the venue where he set his first world record in the 100m breaststroke back in April 2015, with his time of 57.92 making him the first man inside the 58-second barrier.

The venue has also entered into a five-year partnership agreement with Peaty’s AP Race Club, paving the way for a series of forthcoming swimming events.

As a venue for both elite sport and community swimming, the LAC attracts more than one million visits a year for community use and ‘Learn to Swim’ programmes.

Everyone Active’s plans for the building include the introduction of a new group exercise studio in June, a purpose-built spin studio, and an extensive refurbishment of the food and beverage services, all coming soon.
