Throughout October and November, CIMSPA concluded their research in understanding how the sport and physical activity sector is recovering from the extended Covid-19 restrictions with this final survey building on the feedback from the earlier two surveys.

Our aim was to understand the scale of the impact for everyone working within sport and physical activity and the opportunities arising from current working practices.

The infographic below has the biggest takeaways from our new report on industry trends and what they could mean for you.

The government recognises the sport and physical activity sector as part of the arts, entertainment and recreation industry. This has led to misinterpretation of the sector. With the pandemic we saw an underestimation of job loss figures with an initial lack of funding for the sector. The sports and physical activity sector makes up around 61% of the wider arts, entertainment, and recreation industry. CIMSPA’s work to professionalise the sector and to provide career pathways through it aims to counter this, showing the sport and physical activity sector as its own sector, aside from arts and leisure.

Future surveys

CIMSPA’s work to professionalise the sector and to provide career pathways through it aims to counter the above Government classification, helping the government and the wider public’s understanding of what our sector does and is.

CIMSPA is collecting feedback from the sector to better define the sport and physical activity workforce, which will help with a future understanding of our sector. Stay tuned for more.
