CIMSPA forges bright future for TCOR
CIMSPA has been working with The College of Rugby (TCOR) to build partnerships across the sector.
TCOR is based at Sedgley Park RUFC, a National Level 2 North Rugby Union club, in Whitefield, Greater Manchester. This is the first college of its kind to be based in a working rugby club, using the ethos and values of the game to help teach and mould the future generations playing, coaching, and running rugby.
The advantages to their students are many, such as the opportunity to observe, first hand, how a semi-professional club runs and operates and how multi-discipline services are delivered.
In early 2022, TCOR got in touch with CIMSPA to see what support was available from the sector’s only professional body to help continue providing this service.
“CIMSPA and TCOR have formed and galvanised a positive, progressive relationship, working towards building the best possible futures for the young people attending TCOR,” said Kenny Orr, Director at TCOR.
“It is absolutely apparent that, in sharing a mutual philosophy of engagement with young people, where progression into education, apprenticeship or employment are at the core of our shared vision as a partnership, we are providing a unique opportunity and circumstance for best outcomes and best practices.”
CIMSPA staff from our memberships, partnerships and educations teams visited TCOR in February and had a full conversation with Orr to determine what we could do to help and to get an idea of where TCOR was at the time, including where they wanted to be in the near future.
Orr said: “TCOR has been enthusiastically supported by Tara Dillon, Jason Leker and the team from CIMSPA. We could not have asked for a more purposeful response to our initial conversations, and the subsequent guidance, introductions and direction have been invaluable to TCOR’s growth and professional profile.”
Thanks to support and guidance from CIMSPA, they have formed a new academic partnership with YMCA. They will be providing sports provision and progression opportunities for PRU and NEET as part of their local authority engagement.
“We see our future relationship with CIMSPA as integral to how we move forward as an organisation and business. This is a very exciting time for us, and I hope the team at CIMSPA share this feeling.”
Reflecting on his visit to TCOR, CIMSPA Membership Services Officer Jason Leker said: “It was an incredible experience to speak and work with Kenny. When I first took the call, I knew we (CIMSPA) had to do something straight away to connect a small Community Interest Company like TCOR to the right people – and help them continue operating in Greater Manchester.”
