CIMSPA insight: explore how employers are recruiting with mental health and wellbeing inclusion in mind
On World Mental Health Day, we’re pleased to share some of our latest Sport and Physical Activity sector insight which explores how our sector is responding to the increased focus on inclusion with mental health and wellbeing.
We’ve been exploring how employers within the sector are relating roles that they are recruiting for to inclusion with mental health and wellbeing.
Using our extensive data on the sector workforce and employers, our latest analysis shows that there has been an 8.2% increase in the number of roles being advertised that reference inclusion with mental health, over the past year.
This builds on a significant growth over the last five years, which has seen a 78% increase in the number of roles being advertised which reference mental health.

Phill Wright, Head of Insight and Business Transformation said,
“With a growing proportion of the population experiencing mental health concerns and conditions, we have been keen to see how employers in our sector are potentially pivoting some aspects of roles to support work relating to inclusion with mental health and wellbeing.
“This initial insight shows us that there have been significant increases in recent years in the number of roles that employers are linking to inclusion with mental health and wellbeing when they are recruiting.
“We have got more work to do to understand the range of work that is going on across the sector in a range of roles and organisations to support mental health and wellbeing across a range of communities.
“At CIMSPA we are committed to working with our partners and mental health charities, to develop the important role that the sector has in supporting both physical and mental wellbeing.”
