Chartered status – the hallmark of an outstanding professional

Chartered status is a mark of distinction awarded to those who have demonstrated true excellence, innovation, and impact within their field.

A Chartered member strives for excellence in their role, they will stand out from other professionals in their field, and will be committed to sharing CIMSPA’s vision for a recognised, valued and inclusive sport and physical activity sector.

With becoming Chartered comes a whole host of additional member benefits, including:

  • Post-nominal letters - you will be awarded MCIMSPA (chartered) or for Chartered Fellow, FCIMSPA (chartered).
  • Recognition and status – Chartered status is the pinnacle of professional recognition awarded by the sector’s chartered professional body.
  • Lead and mentor – be a leading part of improving and advancing the sport and physical activity sector.

 

Your route to Chartered Status

There are four distinctive pathways to achieve Chartered status and gain the highest-level of professional recognition available in the sport and physical activity sector.

Chartered Activity and Health Practitioner

This status recognises fitness and exercise professionals who are delivering excellent outcomes for their clients, whilst also being able to showcase a significantly positive impact on the sector.

A Chartered Activity and Health Practitioner:

  • May work as a Personal Trainer in a gym setting, run group exercise classes for older adults or operate as an Exercise Referral Specialist working with clients who have long-term health conditions in the community.
  • Will be a practitioner who strives to achieve positive outcomes for their clients.
  • Will have case studies and a track record of delivering positive outcomes for clients.

Chartered High-Performance Coach

Chartered High-Performance Coach status acknowledges the exceptional quality and elevated level of expertise in planning and delivering services within the high-performance environment and recognises the tangible impact this has on people’s lives and the sport and physical activity industry.

A Chartered High-Performance Coach will:

  • Be a professionally active sports coach working in a high-performance environment.
  • Be able to demonstrate the impact they have had working with athletes in a high-performance environment.
  • Be committed to enhancing their own professional development and contributing to the advancement of the sector.

Chartered Manager Member

A Chartered Manager Member will have significant experience in an operational management role and in managing people and resources.
A Chartered Manager Member will:

  • Be responsible for implementing and contribution towards their organisation’s strategy.
  • Be able to demonstrate success in achieving operational targets.
  • Have substantial evidence to demonstrate how they are achieving a higher level of practice, above the relevant industry professional standard.

Chartered Manager Fellow

This status recognises professionals who hold a strategic management role and are a sector leader and innovator.

A Chartered Manager Fellow will often cover a wide range of roles such as a Director of Sport, Head of Leisure or CEO.

A Chartered Manager Fellow will:

  • Be able to demonstrate significant success in a role of strategy creation or system development and ownership.
  • Be making and have evidence of having previously made a significant impact on the wider sport and physical activity sector.
  • Be professionally active in a strategic level position of management, development, research, academia, or administration.
